Angelique Houtkamp is one of my favourite artists. I have one of her prints but would really like the 'Til death do us part' print below to put above our bed but I can't find it anywhere.. I love how they are so beautiful even with the underlying scariness.
Another artist I discovered recently is Shannon Bonatakis. Her work is really magical and gentle, and it is really nice to see the stages that go into producing such beautiful artwork. On her blog shannonbonatakis.blogspot.com you can follow her steps and see the different directions she is exploring with animal illustration also. The frames are pretty nice too.
A few artists I have seen recently had been adding new depths to their artwork. It has a beautiful effect when used right, and Brook Salzwedel has used it well in her work seen at the 'Beyond Eden' show. She uses layers of resin, and pencil to create layer on layer of trees and plants to create the misty effect you see on a foggy day in the forest. www.brookssalzwedel.com
A well established artist that was also exhibiting at the art show was Shepard Fairey. The LA based artist's work sold out instantly to no surprise. You can see more of his amazing prints here... http://obeygiant.com and here www.thegiant.org
This was another exhibit at the 'Beyond Eden' art fair. I didn't get the photographers name unfortunately, but what I loved most was that the photographer included all the shots and background work it took to get to the final shots. I really like to see original polaroids and contact sheets, and when they are presented together as they are here, they look really impressive and make a real impact.
One amazing artist that I saw at the 'Beyond Eden' show was Ilia Mayer. Really nice sketch style and ideas, with a lot of detail. You can see more work here www.thisisbtoy.com
We went to the 'Beyond Eden' art show held at Barnsdall Park on Saturday night. It was the second year of the fair, and is a multi gallery event celebrating the new contemporary art scene in Los Angeles. The LA Municipal Art Gallery is amazing, and has great views of the city from the park. Outside, live art was taking place with local artists painting before you, and inside the gallery was full of so much amazing art from fresh, upcoming artists and established. It was a really cool show, so many different styles, medium and inspirations to appreciate.
